I’m writing this late at night, covered in sleeping dogs. It’s been a busy week and I’m pretty tired, but I just had to write this list up – this occasional blog feature works best when I’m so fired up by the things I’ve seen, heard and read that I can’t not share them with you 🙂
February has been all about music videos for me – planning, shooting and editing one for “Drown Me Out” (listen to the song here) and then immediately planning and making travel arrangements and cardboard props for the next one. I’m going to America tomorrow to make a video for “Paper Thin” out of adventures in New York and Boston, so it’s not surprising that I unintentionally focused on videos for this week’s recommendations. Please read, listen and watch, and click through to support the artists below if you like what they do!
1. “Love, Kim” – a letter to love by Kim Boekbinder
“I believe love is a time machine and can cut across the grain of time to find the ones who need it most. Even if it changes nothing. It changes everything.”
This woman’s way with words is something else, and her prolific musical output is an inspiration. Read, listen, watch, enjoy!
2. Wake It – Rachael Dadd
This new video is dreamy, magical and full of fun – just like Rachael’s music.
3. Hammer & Peg – Jemima Surrender
I’m always bowled over by this band‘s creativity – this latest video manages to be funny, dark and endearing all at once.
4. Wait – the video for the debut single from Bryde
A gorgeous song with a beautifully shot video, launching Sarah Howells’ intriguing new project.
5. Lay Down – Lail Arad
I really enjoyed this fresh take on the music video – a series of still images showing Lail roaming around London.
And one for luck…the wonderful St Vincent proves that guitars made with women in mind (she actually refers to them as “gender neutral” which is even better) don’t have to be pink or flower-shaped. I’m loving the St Vincent blue, unusual shape and ergonomic weight. WANT WANT WANT!
