gigs in places beginning with ‘s’ :::

STOP PRESS: I am very excited to announce I’ll be opening up for the awesome Djevara tomorrow night at NO:ID Gallery in Shoreditch, a night of entertainment following the usual gallery opening hours. This week’s exhibition comes from the BBC Club Photography Section in a show called After Hours, viewable between 1pm and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday at 26 Calvert Avenue,E2 7JP. Entry is freeeeeeeeeeee (I think!).

It’s often the most unlikely gigs that are the best fun. Yesterday I was feeling tired and unsociable, I had a sore throat coming on and all I wanted to do was curl up in front of the telly with my puppy. Instead I braved the icy winds and rain of London to play a gig at The Grosvenor in Stockwell. It doesn’t look a whole lot from the outside (no offence) but they’re a friendly bunch and there’s a back room venue with a proper stage. Just before I went on absolutely loads of people crowded in, paid attention throughout and seemed to very much enjoy both the songs and the nonsensical banter in between them.

Big thanks to Semiconductor Archives once again for asking me to play, and to James and Sian for coming to watch. Lovely Sian wrote a piece about the show for Glitterditch and I didn’t even have to buy her a drink! Oh, how rude, perhaps I should have done…

“She Makes War kicked ass last night. But in a subtle way. She knows what she’s doing and doesn’t just stand on stage making noise for the sake of it. There’s a lot of female artists who could learn a few things from that. We especially like the song ‘I deny’. It gave us goosebumps. We saw music last night that gave us goosebumps.”read the full article here.

It was lovely to meet everyone who came up for a chat afterwards and I hope you stick around for the next instalment of the She Makes War video blog – I’m working on it right now. Coming soon to iTunes, too!

In case you were wondering, last night’s set went a little something like this:

DISAPPOINTING
GETTING NOWHERE
I DENY
I DON’T NEED YOU
GHOSTS & SHADOWS
BLOW IT AWAY
LIKE LIARS
