i heart toronto :::

Posted 13 Sep 2008 in Music,News,Photo Post,Travel

My second trip to Toronto was even shorter than my first. A year and a half ago I went over for three days with Lil’ Chris to play shows in The Mod Club and in Hamilton, a town just outside the city. I had a great time trudging through crisp white snow, enjoying hearty breakfasts and playing music to enthusiastic crowds, getting to hang out with my incredibly talented photographer friend Regina Garcia as an added bonus.

This time, thanks to a two hour interrogation at the border at 8am the whole bus slept in til late afternoon, and there was just time to soundcheck, grab a quick dinner and go on stage. Luckily Regina was around to come and watch and hang out after the show, and brought Ken Johnson of excellent Torontonian psych rockers Grey & Pink with her.

As if that wasn’t fun enough, as we were standing around chatting and laughing I suddenly realised I knew the lead singer of support band Lal. I met Rose in 2005 at a gig my then-housemate was playing, we got on like a house on fire and promised to stay in touch and I promptly lost her contact details. Looks like we were destined to meet again, and here we are with Kamplex, self confessed “dj mc photographer videographer dancer ruckus starter” and all round inspirational gal:

I really didn’t want to leave.
