stuff, gigs, stuff :::

What a mess: I had a list of things to blog about this weekend and finally some time to do it, then ended up spending hours rebuilding the thing after foolishly deciding to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. Some odd MySQL database glitches occurred and it was only thanks to the kindness of a stranger on Twitter that it all got resurrected so quickly. Big thanks once again to Mister Adam Strawson!

All fixed now anyway, and I added a few things in the rebuild including a rather nifty new photo of me playing live, taken by the lovely Cat Munro last Thursday at my gig in Finsbury Park. No, not the actual park sadly, but a very nice pub nearby called The World’s End. To my great surprise not only did people come to see me (thank you, friends!) but there were people there already. Quite a lot of them! That’s the sort of friendly, sociable drinking establishment I enjoy playing in – the empty ones aren’t nearly as much fun. Video clips from the night coming soon…

So yes, I played a gig, and only when I got home and looked at my calendar did I realise it had been seven whole months since the last one (I’m obviously not counting the gazillion shows I’ve played with others in that time). Don’t worry, I won’t be leaving it that long again – in fact, I have two this very weekend:

Gig #1 is a quickie but a biggie – guesting with Grammy-nominated band The Young Punx* at the EA Games event in Trafalgar Square. Entry is absolutely free and the band are performing three songs, the last one of which is ‘MASHitUP’, my collaboration with them which is being released as a single in the UK very soon. Apparently we’re on stage after McFly at around 8pm so be warned! (I believe the show will also be televised; more details when I get them)

Gig # 2 is another SMW solo show, and hopefully my debut as a vocal looper. It sounds like a great night all round, run by the marvellous Matt Daly and featuring open mic slots from 7-9pm and four full length sets from people like me, Ben Cakebread, HJ Allen and Soundcasters from 9. It’s all happening at The Marlborough in Camberwell – see their MySpace page for full info, and contact them if you’d like to play too!

*If you’re scratching your head and wondering who these ‘Young Punx’ are, wonder no longer – here’s the brand spanking new EPK explaining exactly what they do and featuring yours truly on quote-reading and general smirking duties:

If that isn’t enough for you (and even if it is) go and visit their excellent blog Your Music Is Killing Me. Go on, then…
