ian tomlinson rest in peace :::

Posted 10 Apr 2009 in News,Serious Shit

It seems my recent post on filming and photographing the police was a timely one.

RIP Ian Tomlinson and great thanks to the two people observant enough to have filmed the shocking and utterly unprovoked attack on him. It can’t be much comfort, but at least his family know the truth about what happened.

If you haven’t seen the footage – click here.

I feel the need to point out that I’m not a police hater per se. Yes I’m a lefty but I don’t have a chip on my shoulder – I just think it’s wise to assume that at least some of the time, people in power LIE. People in all sorts of jobs tell little fibs, exaggerate and sometimes lie to protect their positions, why would politicians and police be any different? Waking up to the facts makes the world a less nice place, sure, but better to be wide eyed, asking questions and in with a fighting chance of survival.

I’m usually up for a spot of rabble rousing but now is not the time. A man has died and the powers that be tried to sneak out of it by telling a bare faced lie about trying to help him (they said paramedic’s couldn’t get to him because protestors were blocking them).

May the responsible be held accountable. Ian Tomlinson’s family, my thoughts are with you.
