Get the song here on a pay-what-you-can basis…

I was very excited and pleased to receive an email from the Tom Robinson show last week informing me that “Slow Puncture” would be played on the show early on Monday morning (today), as a result of being selected from songs uploaded to the BBC Introducing Uploader.

After doing a little dance around the room I read the email again and realised I would be on the same show as the wonderful Birdeatsbaby, who I became friends with last year after some online chatting back and forth, and played a Bonfire Night show with at the Half Moon in Herne Hill. So I danced around the room again.

I was fast asleep when the show was on but thankfully it’s available to listen to for the next 7 days right here, featuring a host of awesome tunes, a really cool interview with Mishkin from Birdeatsbaby and the first airing of their spooky new single “Incitatus”. Massive thanks to Mish and Tom for saying such nice things about me, wowee. What a lovely start to “Blue Monday”.

TICKETS FOR FEB SHOWS

I’ll be playing two extra special gigs with friends in February:

Tuesday 14th – VALENTINE’S DAY! – at The Brixton Windmill supporting Hysterical Injury and Lilies On Mars to celebrate HI’s new album “Dead Wolf Situation” (TICKETS).

Saturday 18th – The Underbelly, Hoxton – Birdeatsbaby’s “Feast Of Hammers” album launch show! (TICKETS).

There are more gigs coming up too, in Croydon, Bath and Leeds, so check out the Gigs Page for the most up to date listings and links and email me with subject title GIGS LIST + the name of your town to receive gig alerts in the future.

2012 gigging kicked off in fine style yesterday afternoon at The Good Ship, Kilburn where I was honoured to head up the bill at the first Camden Calling event this year. Camden Calling is a small arts collective of exceptional homeless and ex-homeless people, so please check out their site to find out more and support their work.

It was wonderful to see old friends and make new ones, thanks so much everyone for travelling in the freeeeeezing cold. Wrap up warm, friends!

Just before Christmas I welcomed Kitmonsters in to my slightly messy home studio room to do an interview about my gear. Alongside having a nice long chat about the new album, touring and guitar sounds we also filmed a very intimate performance of new album track “Shields And Daggers” on my gorgeous new Luna Dolphin ukulele and Faith Venus acoustic guitar and I did a looping demo on the Boss RC-20XL to boot.

The Kitmonsters website will be launching soon with loads of great resources for music lovers and musicians, until then do follow them on Twitter and check out their Facebook page. I’m really looking forward to geeking out and hearing about what other artists use to get their sound.

A few months ago fellow hula hooper and Lomography UK Online Manager Heidi asked me if I could keep a secret, then lent me a LomoKino and asked me to make a music video with it. So, with a little help from my talented photographer buddies Laura Ward and Dina Karklina, I did.

Read the full Lomography Magazine interview here where I discuss my burgeoning toy camera collection, the appeal of analogue and why making music videos is such a big part of my creative process.

Big thanks to Lomography for asking me to be involved, and for inviting me to perform at the grand opening night of the LomoKino at the shop in Newburgh Street last night. The event just had to feature in my third #vlomo11 video as well, where I meet one of the brains behind super yummy <a href="http://www.lovedawebsite.com" target=blank">Love Da Popcorn and encourage some crowd participation:

The part of the evening where I kicked my lovely rum cocktail over my loop pedal sadly wasn’t captured on video, but thanks to Liana for her swift provision of paper towels.

“Laura Kidd is inspirational. That much is clear after only ten minutes of internet browsing. She and her project She Makes War dominate social networking sites, music blogs and Google, thanks in no small part to 2010’s debut Disarm.

Originally self-released, this summer the album’s reissue has rightfully caught the attention of every music journalist within a hundred mile radius of its lucrative glow.

But chilling Grrrl lo-fi isn’t all Ms Kidd has up her sleeves. She’s also a self-confessed film nerd, and adorns her fans with music videos and handmade merchandise at every available opportunity. All of this, and she is but one woman.

To celebrate her successes and discuss her as-of-yet untitled sophomore, DrunkenWerewolf’s Tiffany Daniels took the opportunity to talk to Laura this August.”

“Kidd it seems is very clearly a fan of the Seattle sound and unashamedly uses its influence in her music. This isn’t so much of a bad thing as she has created more of a stripped back sound and has an amazing vocal that quivers throughout.

I can’t help but admire the lo-fi effect of this album, not only in its sound but in everything. With Laura writing, recording, producing, designing the artwork, making the videos, performing without any backing band and god knows whatever else. Disarm is a one woman show from start to finish from writing through to production and recording, which has to be admired.”
