“She Makes War closes the year with a stupendous performance at the Louisiana…The doe-eyed duchess of dreamy doom pop has pulled the night off with masterful decorum; singalongs, humour, magic tea – she makes more.”
~ Oliver Evans, Bristol Live Magazine.
After a series of support slots with The Wave Pictures and The Darling Buds in November, I finished my gigging year with three “An Evening with She Makes War” shows in Birmingham (Sunflower Lounge), London (The Islington) and Bristol (The Louisiana).

Having woken up with a heavy cold the previous weekend and played four gigs in two days, what was meant to be a relaxed celebration of songs old and new turned into a physical test of my grit and determination. Thankfully three wonderful audiences, a box of Yogi Throat Comfort Tea and endless honey and lemon lozenges did the trick, and a fine time was had.
Before headlining with the band, I delved back into my back catalogue with a solo set, dusting off songs that I’ve rarely, never, or not-for-ages played live like “(Love) Like Liars” and “Magpie Heart”. I also debuted three brand new songs: “Then The Quiet Came”, “Strong Enough” and “Weary Bird”, which may or may not form part of the new album I’m working on at the moment. I really enjoyed playing acoustic guitar for the first time in many moons, and was delighted to invite Sarah Proudfoot and her unborn child on stage in Bristol to join me on beautiful backing vocals for “Please Don’t” and “Paper Thin”.
Massive thanks to Martino, Dan and Sarah for joining me on stage, to Luckless for supporting, to the venues for making us so welcome, to the people who came to see us, to Claire Leach, Ila Desai and Patti Aberhart for taking photos and to YOU for reading!
