I’m very pleased to announce the final single from my latest album “Direction Of Travel” will be the cinematic “Stargazing”, released on 11th November via The state51 Conspiracy, and supported by 10 tour dates throughout the month.
Written in the winter of 2014, the lyrics deal with the sad realisation that we can’t always rely on the people close to us when tragedy strikes, and I think it’s the most vulnerable and honest I’ve ever been in a song so far. When I wrote the line “I don’t believe anybody any more” I truly meant it, though I’m pleased to report things have improved since then!
Heightening the drama, the show stealing, Bond-esque strings were arranged by Andrew Skeet, who not only makes music with The Divine Comedy and Imogen Heap amongst others but has his very own, very gorgeous solo album out now. We spent a day down in Brighton at The Levellers’ beautiful Metway Studio with Matthew Twaites (Mystery Jets, Electric Soft Parade) engineering several sessions throughout the day. The violin was played by Nicole Robson (Bat For Lashes, Rhodes) and violin by Simon Goff (Hope and Social, And The Wiremen). More on this in future blog posts!
on 1st October I played a lunchtime gig at Union Chapel in London as part of Daylight Music‘s winter season. The extremely hardworking team put donations-entry shows on every Saturday from 12-2pm – click here for their upcoming programme, it’s great! – and I was delighted to get to play in a really wonderful space. I decided to indulge my love of natural reverb by going acoustic for the day, I hope you enjoy it:
